Contest Canceled for 2011

We have cancelled the contest this year, but please contact us next year.

ConDor 2011 Fashion Portfolio Design Contest

This year at ConDor, we are presenting something new in the area of costuming. There will be a Fashion Portfolio Design Contest. There will not be an actual fashion show, but designs will be submitted and a winner chosen from among the participants. If you have a ConDor 2011 membership, you may submit a portfolio of designs. . There must be seven designs in your portfolio. The portfolios submitted to the convention will be judged by a panel of costumers prior to the convention. A winner will be chosen. Please be advised that the entire portfolio will be judged, not individual designs. The portfolios may be submitted by e-mail or by snail mail. When a winner has been chosen, the drawings submitted by the winner will be enlarged so that they may be used in a Fashion Portfolio panel which will take place at the convention. The designer, along with other panel members will discuss the winning designs.

Contest Rules
The designs must all be original ideas. You may use a traced figure to draw your design on, but the design must be original. If you receive help with a design, please give credit to any other people involved.

A collection or line in the fashion industry constitutes a group of clothing designs put together to tell a story of the designer’s inspiration and new trends in fashion during a particular season. The number of pieces that make up a collection differs from the number of outfits created. A piece is a blouse, skirt, or dress. Styled together, they create the outfit, which in turn communicates the trend and design inspiration of the designer. The most popular collections are Ready-To-Wear, which are not made specifically for individual customers (the way haute couture is) but are more exclusive than Mass Market designs. Mass Market collections are priced low and are available to the average consumer.

Each design that you submit should be in black ink on an 8.5" x 11" piece of white paper. Pencil will not reproduce well. You may include other views or details of the design on a separate sheet of paper. You may send a color version of your design, but send a black and white also.

We will need to have written on the back of each design: your name and address, your age if you are 12 or less, whether or not you are a first time designer, and the total number of designs that you are submitting. If there are multiple pages for some of your designs, please label them #1 or 4, #2 of 4, and so forth.

Unfortunately, we cannot return your designs. Please send copies. Photocopies will be just fine. If you are submitting online, of course this doesn't apply.

The designer will retain all rights to his or her designs, but by submitting a design folio, you agree that it can be reproduced and exhibited at the "Fashion Folio Design panel." We also reserve the right to use any of the designs in any convention advertising (flyers, program book, etc.) If we use Any of the designs in advertising, we will, of course, give credit to the designer. The entire folio will be judged as a whole. No single design will be judged individually.

You must submit seven designs in your portfolio. Once again, the entire portfolio will be judged, not individual designs. There will not be any sort of fashion show to go along with the contest. None of the designs will be made and/or worn by attendees in a fashion show or as hall costumes. If you win the competition, you may make and wear one of your designs for the portfolio panel.

The deadline for submitting designs is December 15th. Designs may be submitted by e-mail at portfolio-contest@condorcon.org or by snail mail at P.O. Box 15771, San Diego, CA 92175-5771. For designs sent by e-mail, the name and physical mailing address of the entrant must be included in the accompanying message. If you are submitting from outside the United States, please be sure that you have a customs declaration sticker that lists the submission as "amateur drawings/no value."

Your designs may be for men, women or children and should be within the science fiction, fantasy, or steampunk genres. We look forward to seeing your drawings. Use your imagination and be creative!
