2006 Guest of Honor - Artist: Theresa Mather

Duality by Theresa MatherTheresa Mather began her career as a professional artist in 1989, and has become one of the most readily recognized and popular artists in Fantasy/SF convention art shows. Her unique paintings on stone and feathers as well as her many prints of fabled creatures, stunning women and fantastical scenes have also made her one of the best selling SF/F artists in the nation. Although her work keeps her busy, she also finds time to keep in online contact with many of her fellow artists, offering advice, insight and the occasional exchange of quips.

Prior to entering the field of fantasy art, Theresa's work was primarily in the carousel field including restoration work on a number of operating antique machines - including the 1895 Looff now at Seaport Village. She specializes in painting scenery panels to replace lost or damaged originals, working in a style that has been mistaken for antique in carousel publications.

Theresa and her husband Barry Short reside in Cedar City, Utah, where when she's not painting they enjoy hiking and exploring in the many nearby national parks.

Special Guest: Ronald B. Moore, Visual Effects Supervisor

Ronald B. Moore & 5th EmmyStarting his career in the motion picture industry in 1978, Ron has dedicated himself to creating visual effects. He has contributed to many features such as Ghostbusters and 2010, and even more TV shows. He has more than twenty-five years of experience creating state of the art visual effects using every current process from large format 65 mm film compositing to the latest electronic tools and techniques.

Film and video technologies are merging, and Star Trek: The Next Generation established a new standard. From its pilot episode, Ron contributed much to the visual impact of the show. Using the latest equipment and techniques to help produce the images for this very visual show.

During his eighteen years with Star Trek he received 14 Emmy nominations and 5 wins. He has also won a VES Award and two Monitors. As supervisor of visual effects for Star Trek: Generations, Ron was able to keep a consistent look between the series and the first motion picture with the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series cast. The picture proved to be an exciting challenge.

The effects for Star Trek: Generations were split down the middle: ILM doing half the work and Ron doing the other locally in Hollywood. Ron was responsible for the stellar cartography sequence as well as many other sequences in the movie.
