2011 Guest of Honor
A winner of the United Nations Medal for Literature, he is a Professor of Physics at the University of California, Irvine. He is also a Woodrow Wilson Fellow, was Visiting Fellow at Cambridge University, and in 1995 received the Lord Prize for contributions to science. He won Japan’s Seiun Award for Dramatic Presentation with his 7-hour series, A Galactic Odyssey. In 2007 he won the Asimov Award for science writing. In 2006 he co-founded Genescient, a biotech company devoted to extending human longevity. His latest books are the just published SF novel, Find the Changeling, and The Wonderful Future That Never Was: Flying Cars, Mail Delivery by Parachute, and Other Predictions from the Past, to be published in fall 2010. . In a career spannig 4 decades, Jefferson was a series co-star in Rich Man, Poor Man with Nick Nolte, as well as, it's sequel Rich Man, Poor Man Book II, the Revolutionary War mini-series The Bastard, Yellow Rose with Sam Elliott and Cybill Shephard, and The Devlin Connection with Rock Hudson and Jack Scalia. Jefferson has also guest starred in scores of episodes of series TV, including ER, Sister Sister, Hill Street Blues, Police Story, Airwolf, T.J. Hooker, Quincy, The Streets of San Francisco, White Shadow, Knight Rider, McCloud and Mission Impossible to name but a few. His most recent TV appearance was in the recurring role of Police Chief Price on the NBC soap opera Sunset Beach. His many feature film credits include Apollo 13, Outbreak, Detroit 9000, Black Gunn, The Slams, One Dozen and most recently Star Trek: Of God’s and Men as freedom fighter Captain Galt. Jefferson's extensive theatre credits include two Pulitzer Prize winning plays. The Great White Hope and No Place To Be Somebody. He was directed by Mike Nichols in the David Rabe play Streamers, which went on to win Best New American Play of the Year by the New York drama critics. A New York trained actor studying at the Herbert Berghof Studio, the Actors Studio with Lee Strasberg, and an Alumnus of New York's American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Jefferson has appeared in productions on Broadway and off Broadway.
