ConDor Passports

SPACELast year we introduced People Bingo, a very successful mixer game that encouraged attendees to hunt for others who can fill a square on the card. This year we’re introducing a new “mixer game”, the ConDor Passport. The object of the Passport is to “visit” as many planets (Stationary Con Rooms), ambassadors on the United Planets Space Station (Dealers Room), Recruitment Centers (Fan tables), and assorted pleasure cruisers (Concerts & Room parties) to obtain a “stamp” from Customs Agents. A Destinations List will be included with each passport to help travelers find their way around the ConDor galaxy.

The Passports will be available at the ConDor registration desk but supplies are limited so get them while you can.

Thank you,
Colleen Kelly Burks

Wizard Rock Concert

If you like rock music or you're a fan of Harry Potter, then this is the event for you. We have three rock bands that will be performing original songs about The Boy Who Lived.

In 2000 the 1st ever Harry Potter themed song was performed on stage by the Weird Sisters (aka Switchblade Kittens). It was two years before Harry and the Potters were formed and started the Wizard Rock movement. At the beginning of 2007 there were over 100 bands around the world. Now there are over 500.

Our bands are:

  • Wingardium Leviosa
    in their first live performance

  • Marked as His Equal
1st in San Diego Wizard Rock

  • Weird Sisters
    aka Switchblade Kittens
#1 on MTV's Top 10 Wizard Rock Bands for 2007

Join the excitement of Wizard Rock following the Masquerade on Saturday night.

Ellen Muth's Acting Workshops - CANCELED

ConDor is pleased to announce the addition of Herb Jefferson Jr.

Herb Jefferson Jr. played Boomer on the original Battlestar Galactica series and was most recently in the Star Trek: New Voyages episode "Of Gods and Men." He is also involved in community and charity activities, including the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots program, USO, California Paralyzed Veterans Association, and California Special Olympics. He will be signing autographs and hosting his favorite episode in our media room.

SciFiHero.NET returns for ConDor ’08

SCIFIHERO.NET is sponsoring a display of props & costumes in the Media room (Balboa) from a variety of Sci-Fi Movies and Television shows, many of which were screen used, as well as some fan made re-productions. Some of the popular Sci-fi represented includes: Babylon 5, Starship Troopers, Crusade, Demolition Man, Battlestar Galactica, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, The Postman, and Stargate SG-1.

Join us for Show & Tell presentations by some of our guests including Herbert Jefferson (Boomer of Battlestar Galactica) and our Media GoH, Ellen Muth (Dead Like Me). Ellen will be unveiling the DLMSeason 2 Gag Reel to fans for the first time at ConDor. Along with the Gag Reel, she has a music video and her favorite DLM episode, Last Call.

Herb has agreed to two Show & Tell two BSG episodes, Fire in Space and The Man With Nine Lives. A Show & Tell is when a Guest presents an episode or film to an audience during which he/she may pause at a scene to tell us an anecdote or interesting tidbit about the scene, actor, director, etc. and is followed by a Q&A. In addition to the Show & Tells we will have continuous viewings of various productions that tie in with our Guests, convention theme or display.

SCIFIHERO.NET is a network of Internet sites that promotes Sci-Fi media through props & costumes. All of the sites that are part of the SCIFIHERO network are first and foremost a club for fans of Science Fiction, Costuming and Prop building. We are a community that not only exists in cyberspace, but also in the real world. We encourage our members to go to conventions in costume, have fan gatherings and meetings, and to meet and spend time with each other beyond the Internet.

Our goals are simple; create a fun and friendly community were fans can make friends, share ideas and resources with each other; to help provide information and education on making costumes and props; and to get fans back to conventions in costume.

Please feel free to drop in, hang out, and watch some Sci-Fi media with us! "Be the Hero!"

Regency Dancing:

Regency Dancing is the dancing that was done by the aristocrats of England during the period when King George III was unable to rule because of madness and the England was run by his son. The Prince was name Regent in 1811 and took the throne himself as George IV when his father died in 1820. However, culturally the Regency is considered to have run from the early 1790s until George IV's coronation. This is the period described in the works of Jane Austin. It is also the age of Napoleon and thus the period of the Hornblower and Sharpe novels.

There are two kinds of Regency dancing, line dances and the then-new waltz. The line dances are the ancestors to modern contra and square dancing. The waltzes, unlike most you have seen, are patterned and sometimes done in pairs of couples. The dances are mostly slow and stately, for the aristocracy never rushed or exerted themselves.

Regency dances have a long history at SF conventions. This started because of a group of fans and pros who in the 1960's became enamored of the Regency Period romance novels of Georgette Heyer. This evolved into teas and other events. Finally, a fan named John Hertz researched and recreated the dances of the period which began being held at Worldcons and other SF conventions, particularly on the West Coast. A fuller history can be found here ( http://jophan.org/mimosa/m26/hertz.htm ). Quite apart of conventions, there are Regency dance societies, such as The Friends of the English Regency (http://www.geocities.com/~foter/) which hold balls and other Regency events.

ConDor has featured Regency dancing since its inception. All dances are taught before each is preformed. Given their repetitive nature, they are generally easy to learn, particularly as balls generally start with the more simple dances.

Costuming is not required but is highly encouraged.
